About 'home health care shoppers'|Ostomy Toronto IBM Celebration of Service Event was Great!!!!!!! Part 1
I am pleased to Introduce Greenhill. She became an Associated Content Contributor on November 1, 2008 and began publishing on February 12, 2009. As of this interview, Greenhill has published 220 articles and received 81,304 page views. She has a significant fan base that numbers 174. She is a multi-talented Contributor. She writes poetry, fiction and other types of articles and has even included some beautiful photographs of Tennessee. However, without taking away from her other literary work, her recent claim to fame has been her extremely popular and successful Hot News Quickies series. This series came to life on May 7, 2009 and is continuing to flourish, growing bigger and stronger every day. These Quickies are generally are among the most commented articles every day and as a result her page views are soaring like an eagle. As you read through this interview, I believe you will find a friendly, genuine and down to earth woman who has much to offer beyond Hot News Quickies. Greenhill also is a Contributor who takes the time to frequently comment on other Associated Content Contributor's articles. Before we hear from Greenhill, I will give a plug to some of my personal favorite articles that Greenhill has published on Associated Content. If you have not read them, I urge you to. Here they are: 1) Pride: Whatever Happened to It? 2) The Snowman 3) My Secret Life 4) Associated Content Contributors: Who are We? Lastly, for these that might I have missed Meet Y!CN Contributor Janet Hunt, Janet indicated that Greenhill was the one that led her to Associated Content. So all you Janet Hunt fans have one more reason for being thankful for Greenhill. Now, Greenhill, now it is your turn. I for one am anxious to learn more about you. When did you discover you had a passion for writing? I am not sure if passion is the word. I can't actually describe it and I must not be a good writer since I can't come up with the words to explain it! Possibly since the time I realized that if I wrote something down someone might read it. Have you always considered yourself a good a writer? I still don't know if I'm a good writer or not! I think I am until I read some of the top producers at AC then I feel like I'm not quite adequate! I will never have 3 million page views, but that's ok with me. Who have been your biggest influences in fueling your desire to write and in developing your skills as a writer? Wow, that's a hard question - do you stay up all night coming up with these questions? I think this is something I've done pretty much on my own and nurtured myself. I'm not easily influenced nor do I like to be told what to do. How did you discover Associated Content? On a mystery shopping forum believe it or not. There are special websites mystery shoppers use and one section has a list of 'other ways to make money' and there was a thread about AC. I read it and asked a few questions and that's when I signed up. I see your Associated Content Start Date was 11/1/2008, but you did not actually publish anything until 2/12/2009. Was there a reason for the delay? I signed up, and proceeded to read some articles. The first one I read had so many typos I couldn't read it. The site overwhelmed me and I was totally confused and I decided to move on. I then signed up with IP, which went belly up after a few months. I did pretty well on there, which gave me the courage to try AC again and actually submit an article. I understand you write for a pet blog called Responsible Pet Ownership. Would you share the mission and the history of this blog? Also, feel provide a website address for this blog. "The Responsible Pet Ownership Blog is dedicated to helping pet owners take good care of their dogs and cats. We provide helpful information on nutrition, health care, training, vacation travel with pets, dog breeds and a variety of other pet-related topics. The blog is sponsored by CANIDAE All Natural Pet Foods." (Han - on my content page under affiliations is the pet blog name with the link) I read that you own one dog now. What breed is it? Why did you select that dog and/or breed? Abby is a yellow lab. My parents owned a black lab, my sister owned a black lab, and I knew that was the breed I wanted. We actually went shopping for a black one but they didn't have any. Please don't tell Abby that, her feelings would be hurt! Have the articles that you published more recently out performing your first few published articles? Yes, definitely. Do you have any articles that standout with exceptionally high or low page views? The high for me is a just short 4,000 and that was Golden Girls Star Bea Arthur Dead at 84. Also Tax Free Shopping Days just hit 4,200. Lisa Marie Presley is about 3500. My lowest was Informative Post's Demise at 69, which was my third article at AC. Seems only Janet Hunt and I knew about IP! Which of your published articles on Associated Content are your personal favorites? Two of them actually tie for my favorite: " Associated Content Contributors: Who Are We?" and "Things I am not allowed to touch, smell or play with". But the Hot News Quickies has taken off and although it is a lot of work 5 days a week I enjoy the challenge and I enjoy reading all the nice comments! As you approach the nine month mark (6 months of actually publishing content) with Associated Content, how would you describe your overall experience as an Associated Content Contributor? So far overall it has been good in most respects. Early on it was scary and I will say I was ready to throw in they towel many times. If it wasn't for some of my AC buds I would have given up. How has your writing evolved over the course of your time publishing with Associated Content? I found out that sometimes you have to write about things that are current hot topics no matter which side of the debate you are on. You have to be able to take it as well as dish it out. What do you consider your three biggest achievements or milestones in your writing career with Associated Content? First - The editor of the Responsible Pet Ownership Blog, Julia Williams, is an AC writer. She liked my style and asked if I would like to apply for a position writing for the blog. If had not been writing on AC that opportunity would not have existed. Thank you Julia! Second - That I made clout 8 very fast and that I have at least one article on the most commented section daily, sometimes two articles! Third - Stepping outside the box and going for it even when I knew nothing about templates and page views and tags and finally learning how to do a link! Are there any changes that that you would like to see with Associated Content in the near future? I would like to see more assignment with higher dollar amounts, but we all want that. Where do see yourself on your 1st and fifth anniversaries with Associated Content? I can't plan that far ahead, things happen and life changes. Will I be here on AC in 6 months? I don't know. If I am still enjoying it then I will be here and hopefully catch up to saul relative on page views - wow - how's that for a ridiculous goal?!! How do you come up with ideas for articles for Associated Content? I honestly don't know - things just pop into my head. I never write anything down or take notes. Sometimes something I hear on the radio or a quick blurb on TV sets me in motion. Do you have a written list of article ideas that have you have yet to write? No, that is too regimented for me. How long does it typically take you to write an article for Associated Content? You won't believe this, but as an example, the hot news quickies take me at least two hours if not more each day. . How did you come up with the idea of the Article Series, Hot News Quickies? Since I have trouble coming up with topics I knew I had to have a unique series that I could write every day that people would keep coming back to read. I thought it would buy me time during the day to come up with upfront articles, wrong! The Hot News Quickies are really doing well and they have been picked up by usatoday.com, wsj.com, usatoday.com, topix.com and many others. Have you always enjoyed the news? Yes, because I had to watch the news to get to the weather- I'm a weather watcher! How much time does it typically take to produce a Hot News Quickie Article? Sometimes two hours a day. I try to get them all set up for the week ahead of time with the birthdays and trivia. Which Associated Content Contributors do you like to read the most? Now you are opening Pandor'a box...hum, in no particular order: Jenny Wagner, Janet Hunt, Dan Reveal, Donald Pennington, saul relative, Lori Lane, Doc Kristie, JLN, Neil, Kevin, Maxwell, Thomas, Kofi, Mary, Maria and Rachel and on and on. Do feel as though you have bonded with anyone within the Associated Content Community? Oh yes for sure. There are quite a few of us "x-Jersey folks" and we get along great! Other than them, there are a bunch of great people I've bonded with, all for different reasons. Each individual brings something unique and different to the table! What has given you the greatest satisfaction so far writing and publishing with Associated Content? I would say my greatest satisfaction is the nice comments I get . If someone 'gets' what I write that is important. If something I write makes one person laugh, that's great! Have you had experienced any disappointments writing and publishing with Associated Content? No. What do you like best about writing for Associated Content? That I can write whatever I want, pick my topics. I can write serious or silly stuff. And someone gives me a few dollars each month to do it! What do you like least about writing for Associated Content? I don't know when to stop! Do you ever get writers block and if so what do you do to overcome it? It's not so much that I get writer's block - I lose interest for a day or so. I have to step away from this and then I'm good to go again. What are some of your interests outside of Associated Content? My husband and I love to go try new restaurants. We can't afford to eat out often but we try for once a month. We used to love yard sales but the yard sales around here have not impressed me much. We bought a 'fast sale' home one year ago so we are still putting it back in shape! I'm a summer person and our swimming pool is a huge interest! We have everything we need right here, a wonderful home, fantastic property, a great dog and so far good health What are your favorite memories outside of Associated Content? At my age there are just too many to list here. I believe in your comments somewhere you have indicated you are a Tennessee Volunteer Football Fan. What can you say as a past, present and hopefully a continued fan of this team? First, I loved Coach Fulmer, he was like a big ol'teddy bear and I feel he got a raw deal - even though he walked away with a ton of money! Yes, the Vols were not too good when all that went down. As far as the new guy...hum, the jury is out and will be for a long time. He's like me, a transplant. It takes a long time for transplants to be accepted. Now that we live in the Chattanooga TV market we see and hear more about UT Chatttanooga then we do about the Vols. What are the major differences in between living in New Jersey and Tennessee? The accents, the cost of living and the weather! The people - the list is endless. Are you a Baltimore Oriole fan? If so, who are your three favorite Baltimore Oriole players of all time? Finally an easy question: Jim Palmer, Brooks Robinson and Cal Ripken. In one of your articles you indicated that you were an attorney at an earlier point in your life. How was this experience for you? Was I an attorney? Wow, did I like it? Did I make a lot of money? No, I worked for an attorney for two years, my fist job out of secretarial school. In your first published Associated Content article, Pride: What Happened to It?, you discuss poor service and people generally taking less responsibility and pride in their work. Do you feel most Associated Content Contributors take pride in their work? Yes, most do. There are some that think they do, but it's not evident in their work. If they took more pride in their work it would have improved by now. Is there anything else that you would like to add to this interview? I would like to thank you, Han, for asking me to participate. It was a very pleasant surprise to be asked to conduct an interview and I'm sure you have a waiting list a mile long. Thanks again. Please Visit Abby Greenhill at:: Abby Greenhill |
